Well I guess that's the end of summer!
July & August zipped by.....
and talking about zipping, my visiting nephew & I went zip lining
in the Gatineau's. Now that was a hair curling experience.
I thought it was just about climbing a ladder and then zip lining down to ground level.
Hah.....nothing close to that idea.
After being fitted into a harness, we were given instructions.
It was an obstacle boot camp literally swinging between trees...good if you're a monkey but
otherwise, one needs a heck of a lot of upper body strength.
Even my nephew was struggling.
Imagine a cable swung between two trees....
now hanging from those trees are many many swings.
The swings have a narrow 1' x 2' tree board, that's all you have to swing on....
and yes the swings are swinging side to side, back and forth. Depending
on the weight you are, determines how much they swing.
Not for the faint of heart.
By the third obstacle I was overcome and ended up hugging a tree with an anxiety attack.
I wasn't fearful of the heights, I was just overcome with the idea of how much
endurance I needed to get through the first zone. The guide got me to
do some deep breathing which kept me focused and not worrying about what
I was actually accomplishing. Once you're up high swinging in the trees, the
only way down is to complete the obstacles. Needless to say, after completing
the first zone, I called it enough. I'm very proud that I got that far....heck some people
don't even start the course after seeing the first ladder said the guide.
So I lived to tell this story.
I did the one zip line and I'm proud that I accomplished it!
The day before we went to Calypso Park...which was a heck of a lot of fun.
The most demanding ride was the long windy tube.....
after 4 stories of stairs one stood in a cylinder...countdown 3 seconds, after which
the bottom of the cylinder dropped away and there she goes....literally.
My nephew figured it out that we were going about 60mph down the closed in tube.
I was going so fast, I had no time for conscious thought. I bet we were only sliding for
10-15 seconds. I couldn't believe I had done that ride.....but then again, it was
simple when contrasted with zip lining.
So that was my two day staycation.....!
I may go and try zip lining again, now that I know what to expect.
Just call me crazy!!
