Gardening 101

Summer Update

Here's the first harvest....
(no pics of the second harvest, ate it all before remembering to take a picture LOL)

The broccoli invaded...in those fourteen square feet is lettuce, radishes, peas, beans & carrots but like I say, the broccoli invaded and other than the lettuce, not much else reared their heads......so I planted a second harvest without the broccoli and am now enjoying the selection.  Some of it is still growing and hopefully will be picked before frost invades.

My big sister gave me an awesome Christmas present.....

a veggie planter (the smaller one) ...14 sq feet of growing space!

I planted peas, beans, radishes, broccoli, two types of lettuce, carrots and beets...

evidently there's an art to the layout of plants...who knew!
Of course Big Sister planned it all out for me....
I just followed the instructions :)

Dad was a professional landscape gardener & in his spare time, he would plant
veggies on our three acre cottage property.  I remember the weekends spent
selling bushels and bushels of onions and tomatoes - there were so many!
Dad planted to feed the world I think!

So I decided if I'm going to grow veggies...why not try my hand with some flowers.

The backyard is in serious need of something.

I bought shasta daisies, coneflowers, a poppy (my favs), tomato plants,
and a bleeding heart.

So I planted the daisies here....
I may have to move them at some point, I don't know...
especially since this part of the garden is the kid's spa zone...
doggies like to lay here under the shade of the lilac tree.

The next few pics show the remaining flowers planted.

There's some flowers I bought last year but I can't remember what I planted....

So I'll just wait to see what they become.

But I really treated myself to the iron doggie solar lamp....
it shines green at nite....
a reminder that even in darkness, there's always a guiding light.

And of course, I always journal everything in life...

Wish me luck....
I'll be outside watching my garden grow...

If there's a problem, I'll just call my Big Sister!!!
.
