Timing is everything....

There's a Bible verse isn't there that goes something like...."to everything there is a season...."?

Today I read an interesting email about George Burns and Gracie Allen. Cary Grant who was known as Archibald Leach at birth (no wonder the guy changed his name!) was fascinated with this couple's comic act and studied them in order to improve his own theatrical acting. There was Gracie on stage displaying her manic stupidity and ditsy endless chatter while George holds a stoic dead pan face smoking his cigar. Years later when Cary was asked what he was studying, he replied he was studying their "timing".....something he became well known for later in his career.

Timing is when Gracie would finish a joke and George would just continue staring at the audience smoking his cigar. The audience would just keep laughing. In his own words George said....."and when the audience stops laughing at last, I stop smoking, and turn to Gracie and talk to her as though nothing happened. That's timing. Can you imagine me talking while the audience is laughing? It would spoil everything".

Timing is everything. Have you noticed that?

Take time to deliberate; but when the time for action arrives, stop thinking and go in.

I've lived with a messy hall closet since the day I moved in here and that was eleven years ago. I'd had enough over the was time to get de-cluttered, de-mittened, de-stressed and de-solve the pile of stuff on the shelves. I could never find anything so why was I living like this? The mittens and gloves are now paired. The scarves washed and folded neatly. The coats hung properly as they should. Rattan brown baskets all lined up neat and tidy....last job is to paint it. (yes I know I do things backwards!)

For every minute spent in organizing, an hour is earned.

“Our real discoveries come from chaos, from going to the place that looks wrong and stupid and foolish.”” (Chuck Palahniuk)

“Chaos in the midst of chaos isn't funny, but chaos in the midst of order is.” (Steve Martin)

Some places in the house will remain chaotic and confusing....two places where my creativity reign and they will forever stay untouched with neatness....the studio and the office.

There's lots of quotations on time...but one I really like is this.....“Life is all about timing... the unreachable becomes reachable, the unavailable become available, the unattainable... attainable. Have the patience, wait it out It's all about timing.” (Stacey Charter)

It took me eleven years but I got the job done.

Next exciting project to tackle is the master that will be soooo exciting!

  1. Good for you. There seems to be a lot of organizing going on these days. I think it is people trying to cope with the world in their own small way. Thanks for sharing.

  2. Now I am thinking this is inspiration ~~~ I need to do that too. I love your blog xoxo

  3. Very inspiring! Such true words about timing ...and how it relates to life!

    Love your blog!

  4. Hi, I'm a fellow BYW class member. I hear you totally on just havin to dive into a project. I get my best organizational projects done that way. It feels so good, doesn't it! Your baskets look great and I'm sure you're loving your accomplishment.

Earlier this summer, while in the midst of a family crisis I took apart my entire apartment and put it all back together. It was incredibly therapeutic! Cleaning & journaling...they've saved me thousands of dollars in therapy bills. :)
