Christmas is Coming.....

Barbara Nielsen Design

The stores are merchandised and ready for Christmas Shopping. I heard Christmas music as I was shopping yesterday. I am not inspired with the season yet so I thought I'd try to get a bit of Christmas spirit today. Several years ago, I painted a much loved painting designed by Barbara Nielsen as seen above. I love Barbara's style because of the detail Barbara uses with pen/ink which is a favourite medium of mine. When I had painted this, I used it as a sample at a craft show to entice potential students to register for classes. I was not interested in selling this piece since it was such a favourite. However a little 88 year old lady with her daughter were admiring it. The old lady returned to my booth insisting to buy it as a Christmas present for her daughter. Hoping I wouldn't sell it, I overpriced it and low and behold the lady bought it without blinking an eye with the price. Oh hum!

Since that day I have spent many years looking for Barbara and through perseverance I finally found her. Synchronicity played a role in my life today. I found on my painting table a book containing another pattern of Barbara's. I really don't know how the book arrived on the table but there it was. So with hoping to get into the spirit of Christmas, I just had to sit down today and paint it. Cute eh? Do you love it as much as I do????

Thanks Barbara for some great patterns....I must contact you for more!!! If you are interested as well, contact me for her email address. I think I'm getting inspired for all things Christmas-ie!

  1. Cute card. I used to do some of the decorative painting but I stuck mostly with traditional folk art. I don't have much of an attention span so lots of pen and ink, while I love it, isn't done much. On the other hand, Donna Dewberry's one-stroke painting which I have done some of, is less than I like. I haven't done much lately. There are too many things to try!

Getting ready for Christmas is on my to-do list. I have to make cards and knit slipper socks. I really should get started.
